John Hays Scoops Prestigious Award

John Hays has been awarded the Outstanding Achievement Award at the Global Travel Awards held at Grosvenor House in London which was attended by over 1200 Travel Agents and Suppliers.
John was shocked at winning this award and when presented, said "I am very proud, and feel really emotional in collecting this award.  I have great staff and I am very proud of everyone".
John added "suppliers are key to our livelihood as they provide our stock and our partnership with them is cruicual. Our staff play a huge part in the success of the company and maintaining our family ethos of work hard and play hard is our motto. Customers are paramount to our business and it is vital that we look after our customers and ensure we give them exceptional service at all times".
John is no stranger to winning awards, and has been publicly recognised in recent years. He won the 2002 Wearside and Durham Business Executive of the Year award, was crowned the the first Entrepreneur of the Year for the Entrepreneurs' Forum in 2004, was included in the Journal's 500 Most Influential People in the North East for 2008 and has now been awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award.
Today the company has 34 shops in the North East, call centres in Sunderland, Newcastle and Stockton, dedicated Cruise shops in Sunderland and Newcastle, as well as a homeworking division of over 300. He also runs the Hays Travel Independence Group, a consortium for independent retailers who want to benefit from the company's back office expertise and buying power.  The company now employs over 800 people with a turnover last year being a record £350 million.
